Aluminum Accents at Home
We are so used to have aluminum present in our lives that most of the time we do not recognize it as an element with which we can create art pieces. It is present in all kind of home appliances, containers and aluminum foil, cooking pots and utensils, music instruments and not to mention the industrial uses. There are three reasons why the use of this metal has been so popular in the last two centuries, lightness, malleability and economy. It is the cheapest metal, so many artists decided to try it. These three characteristics make it very interesting to work with.
There are different ways to transform this metal into an artwork. The first we want to mention is the Embossment, the stamping process on a metal sheet producing a pattern or design. This work requires the use of embossing tools and even some heat, depending on the thickness of the sheet. It is the easiest way to have the first approach towards this metal. Then, we have the green artists who works with recycled aluminum such as cans or wires, they do a great and admirable job because they create art from waste, and it is amazing what they manage to do. And finally, there is the most delicate and professional method, the Lost Wax that we have talked about in a previous article (see “Giving life to a metal”). Basically, the artist creates the piece by designing a mold in clay or wax, then he pours melting metal into a sand or clay container which has been made around the original mold to create a definitive version of the artwork.
The design trends nowadays are oriented towards the fusion of warm elements such as wood or clay, with cold elements such as metal or glass. We know it is not easy to incorporate metal elements at home and certainly, it will depend on your current home design style. In modern design, it is almost a must to include metal elements but in rustic, country or classic homes, we must pay attention how to include them to avoid breaking the harmony but creating intrigue and texture to our interiors. In our previous notes we have presented you with beautiful pieces made in bronze and copper, now we want to show you two beautiful accents, ideal to add an unusual metallic touch to any room, our Pear and Apple. In these two pieces, the artist really manages to capture the texture and resemblance with the real fruit thanks to the malleability of the metal and the shiny colors ……. Don’t be afraid to add a touch of luxury and brightness to your living room, dining room or even your kitchen with these delicate and exquisite decorative accents.
