Our Table Runners
Did you know that table runners were born in the middle age just to avoid cleaning tablecloth after use?… well yes, mainly because people at that time were careless and sloppy, so a long narrow piece of cloth was placed on top of the tablecloth so when people carelessly served themselves from food trays or wine carafe this piece of fabric was stained and helped the tablecloth to remain clean… however, even if the woman responsible for laundering linens made her best this practice was not always successful, some people used the tablecloth to clean their mouth and hands after eating…
Today table runners are not just useful items but also decorative elements. They can be used as a centerpiece in your dining table, as a fancy head bed or on a simple couch to give a special touch. At home, we all have a plain cabinet that contains important documents, place a table runner on it and you will see the difference or just as a wall art can give a stunning touch to a wall. In some houses, there is a long window on one side of the door and it’s difficult to find the perfect curtain, try a table runner and you will be surprised by the effect. A table runner is a perfect option to decorate your home with grace and style.
At Snowdrop, we have two beautiful Brazilian table runners, made with different techniques. The first one is Amy. In this piece, the embroiderer uses two different techniques: Patchwork with Hemstitch technique. In a piece of cloth, preferably linen or cotton, selected threads are drawn out of the fabric and the remaining ones are bundled by stitches creating a pattern where the pieces of colored cloth are harmoniously sewed on. This table runner can give a cozy and colored touch to your table. The second one is Richelieu. This piece has been selected because it represents a classic technique originated in the 14th, 15th and 16th centuries in Europe. Today is one of the most traditional embroideries that passed from one generation to another. It’s a cutwork highly valued where the embroiderer must have the experience and the knowledge to design and patiently cut selected areas to create a decorative pattern. Give your table a beautiful and stylish touch with this delicate piece.
