Snowdrop, the flower and us…

There are many stories about this tiny flower but one of our favorites is a Romanian legend: “According to this story, each year the sun took on the form of a young girl as it returned to warm the land in the spring. One year, Winter refused to let go of his fortress on the earth and took the young girl hostage. A Hero soon appeared to rescue his love from the grips of winter. A battle ensued, and the girl was set free, but not before Hero was wounded. As the sun began to rise into the sky, Hero fell to the ground and drops of his blood stained the earth. Tiny snowdrops burst forth in celebration of the return of spring. Romanians continue to honor the snowdrop as a symbol of the return of spring”. This story explains why this flower means among other things hope and rebirth.

A delicate stem pushes through the snow giving birth to this little white flower announcing the spring. Her pure color, poise and the resilience with which bulbs spread each year is what inspired us to choose this name because for us, handcraft has a resilience capacity because it’s the first and most authentically expression of ancient cultures preserved and passed on from one generation to another and it has been able to survive until our time, as the Snowdrop flower.

In our virtual and modern lifestyle traditional crafts, tools and materials tend to be replaced by the mass production of designed objects but fortunately, In the last few years there has been a new approach towards artisan’s cultural heritage and their work, specially between the new generation of interior designers. Among them there’s a search for a tradition, modern design, handcraft and eco-friendly lifestyle. On the other hand, there’s an artistic movement around the world using ancient techniques and traditional materials creating contemporary pieces of art. With the fusion of these two trends is emerging a new interior design style closer to the man and its origins.

At Snowdrop we want to help people and their culture to cross our “virtual frontiers” as well as give you the opportunity to know them, their past, their history through their creations and, maybe……. who knows you can be part of this new style.
